So, what is RockLady Art?
Why am I called the RockLady?
In October 2000 Randy, my ex-husband/former business partner, and I went to a pinstriper's panel jam (a kind of "workshop" for learning and meeting others in the pinstriping world) at Bob Bond's studio in Missouri. I became frustrated with the pinstripes I was laying on a panel and finally put it aside and got out a few rocks I had with me. These were smooth river rocks, I had found in them at the Rat Fink Party 2000 in North Hollywood, shortly before we moved from So. Cal. to Kansas. After playing around with a few stripes on these 2" diameter rocks, I began putting pictorials on a few...a lighthouse, a Von Dutch "Flying Eyeball", feathers and a few other designs. Some of the other artists there were impressed with my miniature works of art, I traded some for small things they had, gave away a couple and even sold a few. I was also asked by Bob's son to paint blended flames on a .22 caliber bullet, it turned out awesome. (Wish I still had some pix of these, unfortunately they were lost when my trailer full of all my posessions was stolen when I first moved to Las Vegas.) I came away from the jam known as the RockLady and the title has stuck with me since. I will always paint rocks, they are nature's canvas and their many shapes and varied surfaces make them a challenge. I have even done some mini-sculpting on rocks using Sculpey, a bakeable polymer clay. Though I do artwork on almost anything that inspires me, painting on rocks is what this RockLady enjoys in her liesure time!
Rock Art
This picture does not do the finished product justice! This rock was pinstriped in three shades of blue lettering enamels, shown next to a penny for size comparison. The fine detail of color over color is lost in the picture, but it still shows one form of artwork that can be done on rocks. (Unfortunately it was given to a friend and I cannot get another picture of it at this time.)
